I chose to attend the City College of New York because it had the program I wanted, a good location, and the price was right. I was among a few individuals who initiated the sport of wrestling in New York City public schools. When they decided they were going to start a program at my particular college, they asked around and every person who they spoke to said they recommended one individual and it happened to be my name. The one that made the most impression on me was my wrestling coach; I was in touch with him for years. I actually started teaching while I was an undergraduate because there were some individuals in the department that may have been assigned the wrestling class but really had no background in it. I then taught mathematics, science, health, and physical education in junior high school.
