Career Success

CCNY was a good choice for me. I went to Walton High School and was the senior class president. When I came to CCNY and went into science, I was the only African-American female in my science classes. I enjoyed science when I was in high school, so it was a natural thing for me to major in chemistry. I was not involved in social life. My time at school was really geared towards my education. My brother, who is a year younger than me, also went to CCNY. I'm very proud of what I did there. I graduated from CCNY in 1965. My first husband and I moved to Massachusetts and worked for Polaroid Corporation. I was a scientist in the laboratory and he was a manager in the Technical Department as an engineer. I worked under the head of the company, so I had wonderful experiences working in the lab with the scientists. I worked there from 1970 to 1972. I went to Harvard Business School out of working for Polaroid. I had very good recommendations. I have an MBA from Harvard. It was a very different time back in the 1960s. CCNY meant everything to me.
