It was a college that I could attend tuition-free if I maintained a B average. I was married at the very young age of 19. Just before graduation, my fourth child was born, but I was able to maintain a B average. I started in a civil engineering program. I switched to mechanical engineering, but the civil engineering courses that I took benefited me later in life and my work. A lot of the professors taught in the evening and worked in the industry during the day. They introduced real-life experiences and actual applications of the theory. I worked for Shell Oil Company. Having a degree from CCNY aided in my movement up the ladder. I was in charge of building Shell service stations in the New York and Connecticut areas. I've been working in the petroleum marketing field for 50 years.
