Career Success

I was working at that time. I looked at several colleges to get a four-year degree, and CCNY offered an adult college education experience. That's what I needed, so I attended CCNY. Most of the programs were at Hudson Street in Lower Manhattan. I worked downtown, so it was very convenient. It was quite interesting because I was an adult student and there were students who were in their 20s and early teens. We really worked as a team. The professors were very supportive, which made it possible to pursue an education. At that time, I had two children while I went to school and worked full-time. The professors were understanding. The coursework was a bit demanding, but at the same time, they worked with us. That made it a very rewarding experience. I was studying liberal arts at the time. I took some engineering classes. My degree was in liberal arts. Two or three years after getting my degree, I applied for a position as an assistant director of facility operations at CCNY. I worked at the college that I graduated from. I went on to become the director of human resources for four years at CCNY. After that, I longed to get back into the facility, so I transferred in. When I left there, I was an assistant to the vice president of operations. I then went into the private industry after that. It was really a great experience. CCNY was definitely a stepping stone and the way for me to move into areas that I otherwise would not have been appointed without having that degree.
