BA '78
I chose the City College of New York because I really wanted a first-rate education on a budget. I had the opportunity to go to Columbia University, but chose not to put myself in debt. CCNY was always considered the 'Harvard of the Proletariat,' so that's where I chose to go. I had an hour-and-a-half commute each way to school, so the only extra time I spent at school was in the library. I was also working while going to school, so it didn't leave a whole lot of time for me to spend there, in addition to the classwork and library time. I didn't join any organizations, but I made a number of friends. That was a wonderful experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the time that I spent there. I believe that education is an end to itself; it's not a means to an end. Although I was a political science major, I think I graduated with more credits in sociology. I went on to get a master's in sociology. Using that foundation, I was able to really craft a great career in marketing research and brand strategy. Ultimately, I founded my own company and have had my own company for more than 30 years.
