I worked for the MTA and we had tuition reimbursement with my union for going to school. It made a lot of sense to take advantage of the opportunity to get a degree. I felt that CCNY would be the better of the two colleges that I was looking at. I received my BA in communications, literature, and the arts. I was an older student when I went to CCNY at the College of Worker Education. One reason it took so long for me to complete my degree is because I was afraid of taking math courses. I didn't even take the Math ACT because I felt I would not pass it. I took everything else on the ACT except math. I was afraid to go for it. Finally, when they offered it at the school, I took the class and passed it with a C+. I've met some professors that were very good. I appreciated when they voiced their opinions on how I was progressing and encouraged me onward as well as letting me know what I could improve in. One of my later professors, Mikael Awake, was very good. I participated in his class where we launched his online magazine, and it was a very good class. As an elective, that online magazine class was a beautiful addition and a hands-on opportunity. I chose to act as a proofer. I am a grammatical person and that is very important to me. Even though I went to night school, I took some day classes over the summer and concentrated on music and the arts. I felt that those would be great elective classes because they concentrated on the communications aspect of completing requirements toward my degree. I've been told since I've been to CCNY that I'm a good writer. I also like singing and I am learning to play piano. I have been blessed to have met and work with some very professional people. If I ever want to open a business, my degree will help me with that. It helps me be strong because everything that you do to advance yourself is a blessing. I call it milestone completion. As of 2019, I have received my BA under CCNY. Another milestone completed! Thank you, CCNY.
