BA '01
I was looking for somewhere to finish my master's. I also knew a couple of people from my church who went there. I looked into it, and heard that Ron Carter was leading the program. I decided that it would be a good place to continue my study. It was more than what I bargained for. I was teaching during the day, doing other activities, and also going to school. When I could not schedule school with Ron Carter's class, I took a leave of absence from the board of education to focus on my studies. I re-entered the workplace at the high school level and continued my study. I was given the flexibility to be able to finish my research papers during the summer. Studying in the library was very useful. I was able to finish my master's. I did a recital and learned a big lesson. It was that I should have delegated more to other people. I was very proud to get a degree. It was much more comprehensive than people would know. Not many people can get out of that place with that degree because you had to learn up to a pretty high level. It brings a smile to my face. The other thing that brought a smile to my face was how lucky I was to be under Ron Carter because he resigned after that year and didn't go back. That was his last year. That was an eye-opening experience being in his class.
