I went to CCNY in part because it was a local college that I could access from home. I didn't have resources to travel outside of the New York City area. I heard nothing but good academic recommendations about CCNY. My experience there reaffirmed that. I particularly liked the biology classes. I was in the biology society and was president for one year. I also enjoyed history and political science. I had to decide whether I was going to pursue a career in science versus political science. I opted for biology and ultimately went to medical school, also in New York City. I look back upon my experience at CCNY as a very positive one. One added highlight was having Martin Luther King speak at my graduation. This was a particularly memorable and poignant experience that I will never forget. I have lived in Berkeley, California, since 1974. I'm a gastroenterologist and was both in private practice and faculty at UCSF Medical Center. I'm retired now and emeritus professor of gastroenterology. My wife, Amy, passed away in 2009. I now live with my partner, Suzanne Berkes, who is a child life specialist. I have two children and three grandchildren, two of whom live in Berkeley. I have enjoyed listening to music, hiking, travelling, and wine collecting. I am grateful to be in good health and to be able to enjoy my family, friends, and the lovely community that I live in.
