Student Life & Rich Traditions

I applied to three schools, Pratt, the City College School of Architecture, and Georgia Tech. Since I was going to be the first college graduate in my family, they didn't want me to go away. An aunt of mine offered me a car to go to CCNY instead of Pratt, so that's where I went. They had nice people and great teachers. I had a number of friends that I kept in touch with over the years. The architecture school at that time was in a garage on Amsterdam Avenue. It was a very exciting place to go to school. Dean Bernard Spring was the dean at that time, and he was a fabulous dean. He was a good man. I won an award from the architectural school with my thesis. It was a children's hospital at Long Island Jewish Hospital out here in Queens. You had to do a real project. I was able to hook up with the senior doctor that was leading the project. I still have the drawings from the project. I worked in a number of firms. I was an associate partner in one firm and senior vice president in another firm. I'm mostly on the business side. After many years they had me go into marketing. I've been practicing architecture my whole life up until about six years ago. I also got a real estate license to keep me busy in my retirement. I was well trained both from a technical and design standpoint. It was a great experience.
