Going to the City College of New York was free. It was a pretty good school and I had a state region scholarship. I spent a lot of time on the track, cross country, and baseball teams. That reinforced my belief in trying to approach everything like a sport - you win, you lose. That had a lot of impact on me. I was a distance runner on the track team for a while. I was on the baseball team for a couple of years. Several professors really impressed me with their understanding of certain basic science and psychology. They influenced me enough to change my major late in my career to mathematics. My physics professor and psychology professor both stood out to me. Another one that helped me choose a thing to do after school was Jesse Douglas, who was a math professor. I changed my major to math and got into computers shortly thereafter. I got into computing and got a chance to work with all the pioneers of the industry.
