First-Generation College Grads

I was the first one in my family to attend CCNY. I worked for the New York City Housing Authority for 27 years. I've worked with children and adults, and we had a program that was based out of CCNY. Basically it was a computer program that we had in our community center for the children, and for our teens and adults. I got involved with that and they offered some classes. They actually offered CLA classes, dealing with the developmental stages for children at CCNY. I attended the class which was every Saturday. I went through six to eight weeks of classes. You couldn't miss any classes or you wouldn't get the certificates. Thank God I made it by getting up early in the morning and going up that hill to the city. I used my certificate, and the Department of Health accepted it. That's how I actually got started attending classes. Once my brain started getting involved in education, I was determined to go back to school. I decided to go back to school and I chose CCNY. I was taking classes at 25 Broadway, and that's where I completed all my classes because they dealt with students not wanting to take courses during the evenings. I did attend some day classes on a Saturday, but mainly it was both Saturday or morning classes and some evening classes. That was my experience.
