Student Life & Rich Traditions

CCNY had a great educational program back in the day, and I'm assuming they still do. They had great educational programs if you were going to stay in that field. I did not go to college to teach or anything like that. That was not my initial reason to go. I was interested in research, but at that time they were not taking nor encouraging women to pursue the area of research. That was not their priority. All the men that I knew got jobs. They were not looking at hiring women back in that timeframe. I was going for my master's at CCNY. As a result of being there, they were looking for people in different areas to work on Saturdays. Working with young people at the Saturday program aligned me with them, and I stayed there for many years. We worked Saturdays. We had young children, and I became an assistant principal in the city. I then went from assistant principal to principal and worked with different programs such as the board of directors, within the teaching area, or working with students on weekends or something of that nature. I had a great experience at CCNY, such as working on my master's and I just liked the atmosphere. The students were great. The instructors were fantastic. I discovered when I was at CCNY, that's a huge place, I was also in tune with people that I worked with, people that I met also students coming back to maybe get a master's or they messed up a class and they wanted to improve themselves. The experiences were fantastic and this provided me with an opportunity to become a better student and an educator! In addition to the master's received in 1977, a second master's of science was achieved in 1980. Both degrees achieved honors recognition from the City College School of Education.
