Career Success

I graduated from Julia Richman High School in New York City. When applying for colleges, my guidance counselor told me I was not college material. I was subsequently accepted to UCLA and NYU. I was basically on my own and could not afford to go to either school. CCNY was an excellent option for me and I’m glad I went. My undergraduate years were great! I was on the tennis team with Roberta Klein as the tennis coach. She was amazing! Dr. Marian Gilbert was our dance instructor. I participated with The Boatner Spiritual Chorale Dance Group and loved it! I'm in my sixties and still teach dance at my church. I remember when Aretha Franklin gave a concert at Lewisohn Stadium and Ashford and Simpson performed on the great lawn at South Campus! I received my bachelor of science in education and went on to became a math teacher. Eventually, I became a local instructional superintendent with the New York City Board of Elections. I retired in 2009 and currently do consultant work with principals and superintendents on educational leadership, emotional intelligence, and racial equity. My lessons learned at CCNY gave me the inspiration to pay it forward, and I hope the work I do will be of benefit to others in making positive, meaningful change.
