Student Life & Rich Traditions

CCNY was wonderful. I was the dance award winner and salutatorian at the School of Performing Arts in 1960. I was a kid from the dance world, and all I ever wanted to be was a dancer. I had this wonderful opportunity to study lots and lots of things. I loved Latin, and I loved my Latin teacher. I also loved calculus, and I got to take physics, which was interesting. I was an English major, but we had all of these other opportunities. The courses that I've used in my work and my performing and dancing life are calculus and physics. It was a wonderful opportunity to get exposed to all these things I wouldn't have otherwise. I wound up teaching dance to the actors at Julliard. What I appreciate the most about CCNY was the breadth of the education and the extraordinary quality of the teachers. Our teachers were deeply committed, and they were inspiring and supportive. I have been a member of the Juilliard faculty since 1971.
