Career Success

Both my parents were at CCNY while they were working. They took night classes. I was happy to go to CCNY. It was strong academically and convenient as well. While I was there, I took up the banjo. I was interested in bluegrass music and I met a lot of people who were also interested in that. I still kept in touch with a few of those people. I was a chemistry major. It taught me the meaning of hard work and hard work pays off. It got me squared away for my career. I did organic chemistry and it worked out fine. It really did prepare me quite well for more advanced study. It was a great foundation. I did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Illinois, which was also a wake-up call. Illinois was very strong in chemistry. It was a joy to be in that environment. After that, I did another postdoc up in Canada at the University of Guelph. I was fortunate enough to get a job as an assistant professor here at Auburn University. The rest is history. I've been here ever since.
