As part of the New York City Teaching Fellows program, we were assigned to go to the City College of New York. I was grateful for the ability to attend an institution that was focused specifically on New York City and New York City Public Schools. I ended up teaching for 15 years; three years during my time at CCNY, and then another 12 years after I graduated. I am continuing my work in education by pursuing my doctorate in sociology and education at Teachers College, Columbia University. In addition, I'm growing out the work of educators through EduColor, a national organization dedicated to race and social justice issues in education. I've written a book titled, 'This Is Not A Test: A New Narrative on Race, Class, and Education.' I currently sit on the board of directors for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and am a National Board certified teacher.
