1955

Faculty & Staff

The City College of New York was a free school, and I had some friends that were going there. At that time, I lived in New York City and commuted by train. The great asset of CCNY was its student body. It had a wonderful student body and I made some friends. At that time, the head of the school was a man by the name of Buell Gallagher. He was the president of the school. He was a wonderful guy. Some of the math professors were very encouraging. There was a professor in mathematics named Abraham Schwartz, and he was wonderful. There was another man by the name of Selby Robinson who taught mathematical statistics. He was very good. I worked at an aircraft company called Curtiss-Wright as a programmer for about three or four years. I went to graduate school and got my master's in 1961, then I got a PhD a year later. I was a professor for a number of years. I taught at NYU until about 1969 or 1970.
