Faculty & Staff

A graduate of Bronx Science, I attended the City College of New York because they had no tuition at the time. Originally, I was an engineering student who switched to math, but I eventually switched majors to English. My favorite professors were Harry Soodak, who was a physics professor, and Henry Leffert, an English professor. I was one of the few engineering majors who enjoyed the English class, which is why I eventually switched to English. Two of the friends I made at CCNY were Herb Kaufman, who became an art teacher, and Herb Berkowitz, a married GI Bill student who worked at the South Campus billiard room. After graduation, I was a math and science editor in textbook publishing for four years. Subsequently, I taught math for 30 years in the New York City public school system, one year in junior high and 29 years in high school. CCNY gave me the tools for both professions.
