CCNY was in the neighborhood, and it was a good school with a good location. I had gone to music and art high school, so I knew the campus already because music and art were right on the campus of City College. June Jordan was a Black poet, and she taught English an entire year. The other professor that was remarkable was Fritz Jahoda. He was a professor of music, and he taught conducting. He was a remarkable man. I also remember Elise Barnett and she brought Ravi Shankar to City College. I loved working in the library. Taking classes with June Jordan and Fritz Jahoda were probably the best experiences. I also love the cafeteria on the South Campus and the muffins and the toasted bagel with a schmear of cream cheese mugs that they used to serve us a coffee. I went on to do things in music for a long time. I went on to do things in Jewish Communal Life for a long time. Both of those things actually happened at a city college because I was involved in music. I ended up going through everything, but a dissertation in ethnomusicology at Harvard University. I also ended up doing Jewish communal work as a career.
