Student Life & Rich Traditions

The City College of New York had such a wonderful reputation, and they were finally going to let girls in. We, education folk, were not admitted until about 1954. I awoke to literature and have never been sorry about that. I still spend a great deal of time reading. I met my husband there. He died two years ago, but he's still with me in many ways. During my time at CCNY, a friend and I were in a Spanish class and we were thrown out because we were chewing gum. We went to the dean - me crying, my friend boldly assertive. He said to go back the next day. Sure enough, he was very happy, the professor, to let us in, so we continued our Spanish courses. I got an MBA at the teachers college and did my graduate work at Rutgers. I taught in a classroom, and then I became a reading teacher. I taught a course at night at Princeton University to students who were in the Teacher Preparation Program for about 17 years. I taught until I was 65. I did it for fun.
