I'm a native New Yorker. I was born in the Bronx and then I moved into Harlem. My mother went to work for the City College of New York. They had a program called the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education. She was an associate director of field education in that department. Because my mother was working as an administrator, and also as a professor at CCNY, that's how I wound up there. I had a great experience there. I made good friends, and I played for the basketball team. It was at the time when Floyd Layne was the basketball coach. Floyd Layne has a history with CCNY. CCNY won the NCAA and NIT championship, and Floyd Layne was one of the star players on that basketball team. He wound up being the coach of the varsity basketball team. I played at CCNY, and I enjoyed that very much.
