I chose to attend the City College of New York because I lived in the area, and it was a good school. My two brothers-in-law had gone there and my sister as well; they had nothing but good things to say about it. What made the biggest impression on me was to be part of the university and social system that I joined, which was then called the House Plan. You don't have a fraternity house, but you meet once a week and you set up parties with girls, play ball together, and do other things. I was always in contact with my closest friends after school, mostly at the cafeteria. We became a couple of long-term friends. After my time at CCNY, I went on to graduate school at a different school because CCNY didn't offer graduate degrees in physics. CCNY gave me a very good broad education because of its reputation. It helped me get into the graduate school of my choice, which made a big impact on my later life.
