Career Success

The City College of New York was an intellectual hub and a producer of scientists in students of all kinds. It had a great reputation, so I was happy to be able to attend there. One of my botany professors was Dr. Joseph J. Copeland, who later became interim president. He was my inspiration. I finally went into botany as a result of his guidance. CCNY made a scientist and a scholar out of me. It made me a well-rounded individual who was conversant in music, art, history, and the English language. I was able to engage in public speaking. When I became a professor, I valued that experience.
