Career Success

I went to the City College of New York because it was tremendously convenient. I could see CCNY out of my window every day in my childhood. When I came back from the Peace Corps, which I was in for two years after college, I needed to start a master's program. It was so convenient because, when I came home from the Peace Corps, I was literally looking out the window at CCNY again. That was where the class of '73 came in, because I finished my master's degree. I started in '70 and finished it in '73 because I could only go part-time. I was already teaching at that time, but it was wonderful because my time at CCNY filled in a gap. I had majored in English and I only had studied British literature for my undergraduate degree. I thought it would probably be a good thing to know some American literature since I was actually teaching in high school and it wasn't all going to be British. CCNY gave me certification as a teacher. I was pretty much certain that education was where I was supposed to be. By the time I finished my master's degree, I was certain that this was really what I wanted to do and that solidified my credentials completely. I became a teacher. CCNY had provided me with what I really needed.
