I wanted to get a degree in school psychology to become a school psychologist, so I went to the City College of New York. Then I had an internship at Montefiore Hospital. At that time, it was a tough time economically. It was very hard to find a job in that field. The city was going through one of their economic downturns. I wound up working as a diagnostic specialist at an alternative junior high school in the South Bronx. I was there for a number of years. Then, I went to secretarial school. I met my late husband and he helped me get into an appointment in the City of New York. I worked there for 20 years as a staff analyst. I worked for Headstart as a staff analyst and got a promotion to associate staff. It was a nice bump up in the pay. Overall, CCNY was a preparation for my preferred job. I wanted to become a school psychologist. I never did, but I got pretty close as a diagnostic specialist at Headstart. Then I wound up as the assistant to the director of facilities.
