1957
I chose CCNY because my boyfriend at that time, who is now my husband, was going there. When I went in 1953, brilliant students were taking political philosophy all the time. I was in awe of these students. I had some wonderful professors, and they asked challenging questions. They were remarkable thinkers and made me think in ways I had never dreamed of thinking. My fellow students were such a diversity. They came from a lot of private schools where they had been challenged positively. I learned from them too. Some of the students lived in beautiful places in Manhattan, and I studied with them. I got a brilliant education. I knew I was going to be a teacher, and I felt ready to get a master's. I got a master's in English, and I felt prepared.
