BA '57

I came to this country as an immigrant. I went to the City College of New York because it had a good reputation. I received an excellent education and I am glad that I graduated from CCNY. I'm also grateful that I received a free education. Consequently, I have made an annual donation to CCNY since I graduated in 1957. I have good memories of CCNY and met some good friends. After I graduated, I went to Lehigh University for a master's. CCNY and my graduate degree certainly helped with employment. My first job was for an Army research lab in Natick, Massachusetts. I was there for two years and got some good experience. My next position was at the Martin Company, which is now called Lockheed Martin. The position that was most rewarding was at Battelle Columbus Laboratories, an international R&D firm in Columbus, Ohio. At the Martin company, one of the projects I worked on in 1962 was an Apollo simulator for a seven-day lunar mission. I met some of the early astronauts who participated in the real-time simulation. During the 1970s, while at Battelle, I managed a controlled experiment for the National Grocers Association to test the speed and accuracy of the initial competing barcode designs to select the barcode that was the most effective.
