I went to the City College of New York because I wanted to be an architectural engineer, and it was one of the best engineering schools in the country. The price was free, and all I paid for were my student union fees and my books, which were maybe $50 a semester. For that small amount of money, I got the best education. If you went to another college, you had to get an A average to get into medical school or dental school; if you went to CCNY and you had a B average, you could get into any medical school or dental school. That was how high at the time the school was rated. I had a 2.5, so I was right in the middle, and it was perfect. I got accepted to Columbia, NYU, Fairleigh Dickinson, Temple, and many other schools. I chose dentistry, and I'm very glad I did it. It was well-suited for my skills. I was able to get a position at Fairleigh Dickinson Dental School in Hackensack, New Jersey. Then I opened up my own practice almost 40 years ago, and it is still going strong.
