Student Life & Rich Traditions

CCNY was the only college that I really wanted to go to. There was something about the college that impressed me the first time I saw it as a young girl. The campus was so majestic looking, and I decided that I wanted to go there for my education. They had a good teacher education program at the time. Since I was specializing in a new field, I wanted to go someplace that would give me the best training for my chosen profession. I had a lot of professors who inspired me. I worked for a few of them when I was there since I was a self-sustaining student. Professor Jiggetts was my education professor. He was inspirational to me and kept me grounded. I didn't have time for activities at college; I went to school from 9:00 to 3:00 and worked from 4:00 to 12:00. Even though I was a working student when I was in college, I managed to get the education that I needed. I met many people in and out. It gave me a good sense of who I was and my purpose. CCNY is based on giving back to the community, which was something that I've carried throughout. As a matter of fact, I work at CCNY at this moment. It was a place where I wanted to be and where I felt that I could achieve my goals, which were to be a teacher and ultimately a supervisor. I enjoyed the time I spent on campus. I met other students who were self-supporting. We used to sit around and sometimes have one meal a day together. It was a sustaining time for me. It was an excellent foundation for me. It gave me the materials, information, and confidence that I needed to become an inspiration to the students and the teachers that I trained. It was an invaluble experience. Even though I could have gone to Columbia, I chose CCNY and never regretted my decision.
