I went to Stuyvesant High School, and it was one whole track for kids who didn't have a lot of money and did well in school, went to high school, and two went to CCNY because Sydney College at that time cost $17 per semester. It was a great school. The campus was gorgeous. I didn't live far away. I had a lot of friends that were here. The first memory that comes to mind is my first day trying to register for classes. It took place in the Great Hall building. It was huge. The building was built in the 1880s. The whole building itself had the look of medieval dining, and there were lots of these old computer punch call-ins. You had to put together your schedule. You would have an idea of what you wanted to take. You go to a table and share one Economics 101 and then you'd go to another table. It was an 8 to 10 hour process. It was quiet, fun, and an adventure-filled with anxiety, but when you accomplish it, you feel great. That's the memory that came to mind.
