Student Life & Rich Traditions

At the time the City College of New York was tuition-free and it was close to my home. It had a great reputation for producing scholars, so I thought it would be a good place for me to go. I got a Regents scholarship, which the state was giving at that time, and it helped to pay for books and other expenses. I had very good instructors and very good people when I was on the debate team. I think that was the highlight for me because it gave me a chance to go to other places outside of New York City. We had a strong debate team, and we won a number of tournaments. I learned a lot about reasoning, public speaking, and discussion as a part of the debate team. I was also in student government and I actually was the person president of the student government in 1965.
